Dr Giorgio Marfella’s MRA Address

Distinguished guests and colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to stand before you today in the presence of The Right Honourable Chris Penk, New Zealand Minister of Building and Construction, and the Australian Deputy High Commissioner, Amy Guihot.

On behalf of the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia, and representing all eight Australian Architects Registration Boards, I’d like to thank Gina Jones, the Chair of the New Zealand Registered Architects Board – Kenneth Van Tine, President of NCARB, and all the friendly staff and collaborators here today, for hosting and celebrating the signing of this trilateral Mutual Recognition Agreement.

Australia has a longstanding tradition of friendship and mutual collaboration with New Zealand and the United States. This agreement represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fostering cross-Pacific collaboration, knowledge exchange, and expanding opportunities for architects across our three nations.

The value of this renewed agreement cannot be overstated. By removing barriers, it opens doors for truly global participation and paves the way for a more inclusive and dynamic architectural profession. This agreement is a testament to these three countries vision of a more interconnected architectural community—one that reflects the evolving needs of a global profession committed to addressing worldwide challenges through innovation, creativity, and exemplary design.

This is indeed a momentous occasion, and I look forward to witnessing the many ways this agreement will empower Australian architects to gain invaluable international experience, enrich our built environments, and continue to strengthen the bonds between our three countries for years to come.

Thank you.

Dr Giorgio Marfella
